Aurora Central Catholic junior Joe Cisneros (Montgomery) and senior Nick Holzer (Yorkville), were the first two Varsity football players recognized for giving “Championship Effort” on Wednesday following Summer Camp, and Strength & Conditioning. The two were rewarded for their continued positive attitude, effort, outgoing leadership, and consistent daily performance.
“Joe and Nick have done a great job for us for a while this summer,” Head Coach Brian Casey said. “Both of these young men show up each day ready to get better, they both give great effort each time out, and have displayed great leadership qualities to the young kids, and they have done so all summer. These are two great examples of what we are looking for in ACC Football players.”
The “Championship Effort” club, was created by Coach Casey last week as a way to encourage all 2011 Varsity Football Players to take ownership of their program. Those kids who give “Championship Effort”, and that effort is acknowledged by the coaching staff will be recognized in front of their teammates, and awarded a T-shirt. Those T-shirts are subject to continued effort, or it will be forfeited back.
“We want all 40 of our guys in those t-shirts,” Coach Casey said. “We are in the middle of a great summer camp, but if we can get everyone to buy into going above and beyond ordinary effort at everything we do (practice, weights, meetings, etc.), that is when we can become very dangerous football program.”
Cisneros is slated to be a returning starter for the Chargers in 2011. He started for the final four games last season at Center on the Varsity as a sophomore. Cisneros is also a member of the ACC Basketball team.
Holzer returns to the Charger defense coming off a 84 tackle season on 2010, earning a spot on the First Team All-Conference team. He was also named to the Daily Herald All-Area Honorable Mention, and Kane County Chronicle All-Area Second Team. Holzer is also a participant for the ACC Tennis program.
