For the fourth time already this summer, Mother Nature had an effect on Summer Football Camp, this time it was Monday morning during the Chargers 9th time on the field this summer.
“Today was a bit different,” Head Coach Brian Casey said. “We were able to get some good work done first thing in the morning, then took about 20 minutes to let the real dark clouds and rain pass, then finished up outside after a lot of the rain was passed. I was impressed with how productive of a day we had despite that down time, the kids worked hard today.”
The schedule on Monday morning was no where near as impacted as it has been at times earlier in the month. After getting the first two days of summer camp in (June 13 and 14), the Chargers had the next two days washed out. Then again last week, the Chargers lost a day with the big storms that hit the Aurora area on Tuesday morning.
“The only positive to come out of the weather is how far along we already are,” Casey said. “Our kids have done a great job remembering a lot of the offense and defense from last year, so there has not been as much pressure to panic if the weather turned bad. Obviously we would like to get outside to have some time to perfect some things, but the guys have done a great job learning off the chalk board so when we do get out there, we can move through things”
According to Weather.com, the rest of the week looks nice for the Aurora area, which should allow the Chargers to complete the first half of their summer camp, before breaking for the 4th of July Weekend.
“If the forecast holds true, we should be good,” Casey said. It will give us some nice dry weather to get some great fundamental and positional work done, and end the first half of summer on a great note. I know the coaching staff and the kids are itching to keep working towards August 26th, so we are looking forward to having a lot of sun!”
