Aurora Central Catholic Seniors John Belovich, Adam Blake, and Kent Brauweiler have all decided to continue their football playing careers in college as all three have signed commitment letters over the last few weeks. Blake (Aurora, IL) will stay close to home and attend Aurora University where he will compete in both Football and Track. While Belovich (Hinckley, IL) and Brauweiler (Plano, IL) will now call Iowa home attending Loras College and Iowa Wesleyan University respectively.
Belovich, a three-year starter for the Chargers, earned All-Conference Honorable Mention as a senior, serving as the teams Middle Linebacker and a captain. Belovich finished his senior year with 50 total tackles, including 6 for a loss. John was named Defensive Player of the Week in Week 6 for his 10 tackle effort vs. Immaculate Conception, a performance in which featured his left arm wrapped and braced due to a torn UCL in his elbow, and his right hand clubbed due to a broken thumb. John was named to the SCC Academic All-Conference Team and the IHSA Academic All-State Team in the fall. In December, he was named as a recipient of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, an award that is given to a select number of student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the football field, and in the community.
Blake, a two-way starter in 2010 and a three-year Varsity player, was the anchor of the Aurora Central Catholic offensive and defensive lines. The senior captain’s ability to move his opponent off the line of scrimmage helped the Chargers average 4.6 yards when running behind Right Tackle. Defensively, Blake netted 25 tackles, including 5 for a loss. His versatility was a tremendous asset the to the program as he was able to move from Tackle to Center on a few occasions. Adam was voted by his teammates as the 2010 Most Valuable Player, and was named as a First Team All-Conference player, and was the Runner-Up in voting for the Conference Lineman of the Year. Blake was named to the Daily Herald All-Area team, and was Honorable Mention in the Beacon News.
Brauweiler, also a two-way starter and three-year Varsity player, spent very little time on the sidelines playing in over 90% of the snaps in 2010. Kent led the Chargers in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns from the Tight End position. He was named Offensive Player of the Week for his 5 catch, 52 yard effort vs. Montini in week 5. On defense, Kent accounted for 37 tackles including 7 for a loss, and 2 sacks. Brauweiler, also a captain in 2010, was also a factor on Special Teams, serving as the Long-Snapper, a role in which he thrived at, not having a poor snap all season, including a Special Teams Player of the Week award week 7. Brauweiler was named First Team All-Conference, and was Honorable Mention All-Area in the Daily Herald after the 2010 season.
“I am extremely proud of all three of these young men,” said Coach Casey. “There work and dedication these guys have put into themselves and the ACC Football Program have been second to none. I have had the privilege of watching these three guys grow over the last four years, and their development both as football players and as young men has been amazing. Their positive attitude, hard working demeanor, and ability to lead others will make them not only help them succeed in college, but will make them very difficult to replace here at ACC.”
All three players will return to the Chicago Suburbs as a member of their college programs in the fall. Blake will be play all of his home games in Aurora, at AU. Brauweiler and Iowa Wesleyan, whose roster also features 2009 ACC Graduate Tom Barkei, will travel to Deerfield to play Trinity International on October 1st at 1:00 p.m. Belovich and Loras College open the season September 3rd at Elmhurst College for a 1:00 p.m. kick, just hours before the 2011 Chargers kickoff at home against Marengo in a 4:00 p.m. start.
