The Aurora Central Catholic football program, along with the cheerleaders and dance team presented a check for $13,328 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in efforts to find a cure for childhood research. The check, presented at halftime of Saturday’s Boys Basketball game against Marmion, was presented on behalf of the Chargers “Team Up” event that took place during the Chargers week 8 win over Wheaton Academy.
On October 13th, all members of the football, cheerleading, and dance programs gathered in the Aurora Central Catholic cafetorium to write awareness letters to family and friends asking for their support in aiding St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. In total, the Chargers mailed out over 3,700 letters.
“I was stunned by the amount of money we raised for St. Jude’s,” ACC Head Coach Brian Casey said. “I knew we had a very supportive school community, but I was shocked when I saw how much the check was for. It think really shows how grateful our kids are for their health, and it says a lot about those who donated to such an important cause.”
The check was presented by members of all three programs, including Steven Amoni (Yorkville) and Brian Bohr (Aurora), members of the 2011 Chargers. Dancers Kaylee Hoffner, Nicole Dillenburg, and Emily Perez, along with Cheerleader Lauren Buchner also participated in the check presentation.
