Three Chargers have been named first-team Suburban Christian Conference for the Gold Division. Seniors Kyle Clechenko (St. Charles), Nick Holzer (Yorkville), and A.T. White (Aurora), were nominated by coaches of the Suburban Christian Conference and were voted as members of the 1st Team.
Juniors Luke Dickerson (Sugar Grove) and Izzy Rosa (Montgomery) were named as Honorable Mention All-Conference. Senior Alex Karafiat (Aurora) and Junior Steve Belovich (Hinckley) were selected as Special Mention All-SCC Gold.
“It really is great recognition for the kids,” ACC Head Coach Brian Casey said. “The hard work they put in this off-season, their level of play in the fall, it is noticed by myself and other coaches in our conference. These awards are very special for these individuals.”
For Holzer, it marked his second All-Conference First Team award, having received first team honors in 2010. Holzer led the Chargers and the area with 127 tackles. Holzer was voted as the Suburban Christian Conference Gold Division’s Runner-Up in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
“We really play in a tough conference,” Holzer said. “A lot of improving teams, a lot of playoff teams, and some state championship quality teams, to be recognized with so many other great players that we play against is an honor.”
Clechenko also was an award winner in 2010, however this season he made the jump from Honorable Mention to 1st Team. Clechenko led the Chargers with 791 yards rushing in 2011, that mark was third most in the Suburban Christian Conference Gold Division.
White (First Team), Rosa (Honorable Mention) and Karafiat (Special Mention), were all recognized for their work in helping the Charger Double Wing offense set a school record 2217 rushing yards in 2011. The Chargers averaged 271 yards rushing per game, nearly a 40 yard improvement from the previous year.
Dickerson and Belovich, both earned All-Conference recognition for the first time in their careers. Dickerson was the all-purpose threat for the Chargers in 2011, rushing for 634 yards and 6 touchdowns, catching 9 passes for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns, finished the season with 380 special teams return yards, and had an interception. Belovich did most of his work defensively at linebacker next to Holzer. Belovich finished 2011 with 67 tackles, including 6 for a loss, and led the Chargers with 2 interceptions. Belovich also ran for 40 yards, and caught 4 passes for 31 yards and a touchdown.
