With the most meaningful game in 14 years less than 72 hours away, the Aurora Central Catholic Varsity Football team moved Wednesday’s practice about 40 minutes east to Montini Catholic High School in Lombard. The practice allowed the Chargers to stay outside despite the elements and have some time to run around on the synthetic turf that they will see Friday evening at Aurora Christian.
“It actually led to a pretty good practice for us,” ACC Head Coach, and Montini alum, Brian Casey said. “I think the kids were much more energetic when we started, and more excited about practicing despite the weather. There is a difference between running around on turf and grass, and we have to be prepared for everything on Friday night”
Montini renovated their entire football facility this past off-season making the transition from natural grass to turf, the stadium was open in time for the Broncos week 1 contest with Palatine.
“It was definitely the nicest football field I have ever been on,” Senior Linebacker Nick Holzer said. “It gives everyone a better idea of how to cut and how fast it plays, so it was good to practice on this once before we play Aurora Christian.”
The weather was a seperate issue, as the rain was consistent from the time the Chargers left Aurora, until well after practice.
“All things considered it went very well,” Casey said. “We were a little concerned about the productivity we would have because of the weather and the drive and that, but once they got out here with the lights on and running around, everything went great. We really thank Coach Andriano, Coach Bukovsky, and everyone at Montini for allowing us the chance to come out.”
