Despite competing toe-to-toe for the first quarter and a half, Aurora Central Catholic dropped a 50-0 contest to Marian Central Catholic in Woodstock last Friday night. The Chargers trailed 15-0 at the 7 minute mark of the second quarter, but the Hurricanes, ranked second in the state in Class 5A, exploded for 28 points just before halftime.
The Chargers enjoyed mild success moving the football offensively, but failed to get the ball deep in Marian territory.
“We had a few chances to make some plays and couldnt capitalize,” ACC Head Coach Brian Casey said. “Against good teams you have to make some plays in key situations and we did not do that tonight.”
The Hurricanes took advantage of a few Charger mistakes and taking advantage of some short fields to ride their second quarter to the win.
“Our kids played hard,” Casey said. “Two weeks ago, I thought some of our kids cashed it in when things took a turn, tonight our kids played hard and competed for a full 48 minutes despite the opponent of the score. That may be the best football team we will play this season, and our kids didnt back down.”
The Chargers return to conference play Friday night as they travel to River Grove for a date with Guerin Prep. The Chargers defeated the Gators 39-8 in the 2010 season finale. Kickoff for the Varsity is schdeuled for 7:30 p.m.
